Position Overview
The Teacher is responsible for implementing a program of activities for the classroom while performing the daily tasks that establish the basic foundation for a healthy and safe environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, implement, and supervise activities that are developmentally appropriate and meet the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical needs of the children.
- Interact in a positive manner with the children while remaining alert to their social, emotional, physical, and cognitive needs.
- Communicate with the children at their developmental level.
- Maintain a nurturing and positive environment to promote the children’s self-esteem.
- Prepare record keeping to include: daily care forms, information forms, attendance forms, and inventory; ensure documentation accompanies children to the next age group.
- Documentation is completed by observing, evaluating, and recording children’s developmental progress on a consistent basis.
- Identify and assist children who experience difficulty in the group.
- Time out to be used minimally as positive behavior is to be reinforced.
- Comply with all state and local regulations pertaining to the care of children.
- Become familiar with the school routines and policies while keeping the Director of Child Care informed of any concerns or inquiries within the assigned areas.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly physical environment including, but not limited to general housekeeping before and after meals and snacks, laundering of items used by children, reporting potential hazards, and enforcing safety practices.
- Intervene in a positive manner when children are likely to injure themselves and/or others.
- Maintain visual supervision of the children at all times, never leaving the children unattended.
- Assist children with self-care activities, feeding, toileting, and personal care as appropriate.
- Demonstrate an interest in expanding personal knowledge of child development.
Qualifications
- Completion of an active enrollment in CDA program or Associate in Early Childhood Education.
- Bachelors in Early Childhood Education preferred.
- One (1) year experience supervising young children.
- Three (3) years supervising young children preferred.
- NAEYC membership preferred.
