Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a youth-centered nonprofit dedicated to supporting students ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. Through mentorship, social-emotional learning, academic enrichment, and creative expression, we create safe, consistent, and empowering spaces for young people to grow, thrive, and succeed. We believe every child deserves a promise kept — and we work every day to make that promise real.
As MAP expands its programs, we are building the technical infrastructure to support online learning, mentorship, and digital resource distribution.
Role Overview
We are seeking Volunteer Cloud Engineers to design, deploy, and maintain cloud-based solutions that ensure MAP’s platforms are secure, scalable, and reliable. This role will focus on building infrastructure on Amazon Web Services (AWS) or similar environments and supporting our growing technical team. The ideal candidate has strong cloud engineering skills and is passionate about applying technology for social impact.
Key Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Implement and monitor security best practices, ensuring compliance with data privacy standards
Support Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) development (Terraform or similar)
Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines for deployment automation
Troubleshoot issues related to cloud performance, integrations, or reliability
Set up monitoring, logging, and alerting systems for proactive management
Collaborate with developers to optimize app performance in cloud environments
Provide documentation and training for team members as needed
Requirements
Proven experience in cloud engineering or DevOps (professional or volunteer)
Proficiency in AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, or similar services)
Experience with Terraform, Ansible, or other IaC tools
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar)
Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Commitment to MAP’s mission and values
Preferred Skills
AWS, Azure, or GCP certifications
Experience with containerization tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
Familiarity with nonprofit or education tech platforms
Knowledge of compliance frameworks and data security best practices
