Job Description As a Sit-Down Forklift Driver in a manufacturing setting, you are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of sit-down forklift equipment to move raw materials, components, finished goods, and other materials throughout the production floor and designated storage areas. This role requires a strong emphasis on safety, precision, and seamless integration with the manufacturing process to ensure continuous production flow.

Responsibilities:

Safe Operation of Forklift in a Manufacturing Environment:

Operating sit-down forklift equipment safely and responsibly within the often dynamic and space-constrained manufacturing floor. Performing thorough daily pre-shift inspections of the forklift and completing inspection checklists, paying attention to factors critical for manufacturing (e.g., maneuverability in tight spaces). Immediately reporting any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns that could impact production or personnel. Strictly adhering to all company safety policies and procedures, including pedestrian awareness and traffic management within the plant. Maintaining a clean and organized work area around the forklift and ensuring pathways remain clear for production and personnel movement.

Material Handling for Production:

Transporting raw materials and components from receiving or storage areas to designated production lines or work centers. Supplying production lines with necessary materials in a timely and efficient manner to avoid production delays. Removing finished goods from production lines and transporting them to designated storage, packaging, or shipping areas. Carefully handling delicate or high-value components and finished products to prevent damage. Positioning materials to facilitate efficient processing or assembly.

Inventory and Material Tracking Support:

Assisting with inventory counts and cycle counts within the manufacturing and storage areas. Ensuring accurate movement of materials and potentially updating basic tracking systems (manual or electronic). Identifying and reporting any discrepancies in material quantities or locations.

General Manufacturing Support:

Assisting with other tasks as needed within the manufacturing environment to support overall production efficiency and safety. Maintaining a clean and organized work environment throughout the manufacturing floor.

Requirements

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Valid forklift operator certification specifically for sit-down forklifts is required. Proven experience operating a sit-down forklift within a manufacturing environment, understanding the specific challenges and safety considerations. Ability to read and interpret work orders, production schedules, and safety guidelines. Strong understanding of manufacturing safety protocols and the importance of preventing damage to equipment and products. Ability to lift and move objects as required (weight may vary depending on the materials handled in the specific manufacturing process). Exceptional attention to detail and spatial awareness, particularly when maneuvering in tight production areas. Ability to work independently and as a reliable member of the production team Physical Demands:

Regularly required to sit for extended periods while operating the forklift. Frequent use of hands and feet to operate forklift controls with precision. Excellent visual acuity (near and far vision), depth perception, and peripheral vision are crucial for safe operation in a busy manufacturing setting. Ability to hear and understand instructions and warnings amidst potential machinery noise. May occasionally be required to lift and move objects outside of operating the forklift. Work Environment:

Manufacturing environment with potential exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and temperature variations. Constant interaction with moving machinery, production equipment, and personnel. Strict adherence to all safety regulations and the consistent use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
