SALARY RANGE: $70,819.84 - $93,128.88 Annually

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under general supervision, operates and performs minor maintenance of heavy construction vehicles and equipment to assist in the construction and maintenance of sanitary and storm sewer facilities.

Essential Functions:

  • Operates heavy construction vehicles and equipment such as a back hoe, excavator, skid steer, or truck mounted crane in digging trenches, loading trucks, lowering pipe/shoring, and backfilling.
  • Hoisting machinery/equipment such as pumps, gate assemblies, and personnel in man baskets.
  • Operates equipment such as a wheel loader in loading trucks at ground level.
  • Inspects and services vehicle and makes minor repairs.
  • Makes minor repairs to all equipment.
  • Transfers equipment and stations for safe operation.
  • Supervises work of assigned employees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Training and Experience:

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Five (5) years of experience in maintenance and operation of heavy construction vehicles and equipment.
  • Certified Crane Operator Certification (CCO) issued by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) required.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of the operation, servicing, and daily maintenance of heavy construction equipment and vehicles.
  • Considerable knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations involved in vehicle and equipment operation.
  • Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and proper safety precautions.
  • Skill in the operation of heavy machinery, equipment, and tools used to dig trenches, lay pipe on grade, repair sewer pipe, hoist and set heavy materials, clear and grade land, spread and compact asphalt, operate trench compaction equipment, and operate boom truck.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to supervise the work of subordinates.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess an appropriate, valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with endorsements for air brakes and tanker issued by the state in which employee resides within the first three (3) months of employment.
  • Must possess a Certified Crane Operator Certification (CCO) issued by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO).
  • Pursuant to MSD's "Substance Abuse Policy and Procedures," this position has been designated as safety sensitive, and candidate must pass a D.O.T. Drug Test for this position. Employees occupying this position are subject to Federal (D.O.T.) Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulations.
  • All current employees must have a "Meets Expectations" or "Proficient" rating on their most recent performance evaluation to be eligible.
