A full-time Sign Language Interpreter is needed to support an elementary student in a K-12 school setting. This contract position offers an opportunity to facilitate clear and effective communication for a student throughout their daily educational activities. Key Responsibilities: Provide sign language interpretation services for an elementary student during all classes and school activities Accompany the student throughout the school day, ensuring consistent communication access Collaborate closely with teachers, staff, and the students support team to foster an inclusive learning environment Maintain accurate records of services provided and communicate effectively with educational personnel and family as needed Adhere to confidentiality guidelines and professional standards in all interactions Qualifications and Desired Experience: Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and the ability to interpret accurately in a K-12 academic setting Experience working with children, preferably in an educational environment Ability to follow a full school-day schedule, with attention to detail and flexibility for various class settings Strong communication and interpersonal skills Commitment to supporting student inclusion and equal access to education Position Details: Location: South Hill, VA Job Type: Contract, full-time Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm (35 hours per week) Duration: August 7, 2025 to May 20, 2026 The role is not itinerant; the interpreter travels only with the assigned student throughout their activities This contract role provides the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a students educational experience by ensuring effective communication access.
