Overview The Senior Director of the MedStar Georgetown Cancer Institute at MedStar Washington Hospital Center (MGCI@MWHC) reports to the Vice President of Professional Services. This senior administrative leader is responsible for the strategic, financial, and operational oversight of all cancer services within MGCI@MWHC. The Senior Director serves as the primary administrative liaison between the cancer center leadership and the hospital/system leadership, ensuring that cancer services align with MedStar Health's goals for excellence in patient care, academic achievement, and financial sustainability. This position collaborates closely with administrative leaders, department chairs, and clinical teams to advance a comprehensive, patient-centered cancer care program that integrates prevention, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and research. The Senior Director is responsible for the effective and efficient use of available human, fiscal, and clinical resources to maintain high standards of patient-focused cancer care, as well as for the development and growth of managers and staff within the service line. Additionally, the Senior Director will identify programs, services, and associated competencies necessary to build and expand oncology programs and services at Washington Hospital Center and MGCI@MWHC. This individual will provide leadership, direction, and operational management to the clinical services of MGCI@MWHC in accordance with the mission, policies, and philosophy of WHC.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Manages administrative operations of a comprehensive, interdisciplinary oncology program line as a key WHC service line; provide administrative leadership and direction for the oncology service line in collaboration with the Medical Director of MGCI@MWHC and the Senior Director of Oncology Nursing.

Participates in strategic planning and implementation of key priorities. Develops department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. Creates and communicates a shared vision. Ensures compliance with business unit policies and procedures, regulations, and governmental and accreditation standards. Oversees regulatory reviews and accreditation readiness.

Collaborates with (1) WCI's Medical Director, WHC Vice President of Operations, WHC's Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs, and WHC's President to develop and implement strategic business plans aligned with WHC's annual operating plan; (2) MedStar's strategic planning staff regarding new joint ventures and CON process; (3) RadAmerica in promoting the development of the system-wide radiation oncology network; (4) Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center in furthering MSH's integration goals.

Enhances MedStar's brand strength by ensuring an optimal patient experience from first outreach through the entire oncology care continuum. Partner with hospital leaders to facilitate patient care, build referral services, and advance the Hospital's mission.

Organizes administrative functions including delineation of responsibility and accountability of interdisciplinary team members, ensuring adequate staffing to meet the needs of cancer patients and their families.

Prioritizes oncology service line opportunities for capital and operating investments to extend and/or achieve a leadership position in the region through clinical and technical excellence and consistent delivery of outstanding cancer care.

Selects, supervises, evaluates, and initiates appropriate personnel actions for MGCI@MWHC's management team across oncology cost centers.

Maintains and enforces MGCI@MWHC policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement, patient satisfaction, safety, environmental, and other administrative performance standards.

Collaborates with physicians, clinical and nursing leadership to develop patient care protocols, policies, procedures, and standards of care. Determines patient care equipment, supplies, and facility needs; promotes interdisciplinary coordination of patient care activities.

Implements financial policies and procedures pertaining to annual budget planning, budget monitoring and variance reporting, physician billing, reimbursement maximization, cost control, revenue enhancement, and long-range plans related to the oncology service line.

Ensures MGCI@MWHC maintains a competitive advantage with leading-edge technology and that outpatient oncology facilities meet high safety and patient-friendly standards.

Establishes and maintains a comprehensive management reporting system to provide timely data for planning and evaluation of the oncology program and services.

Increases cancer program volumes, regional market-share and financial profitability; builds strong working relationships with WHC Medical Staff, referring physicians, outlying hospital CEOs and managed care networks.

Develops and manages new revenue-producing cancer-related programs and services in line with WHC/WCI annual plans, goals and objectives.

Ensures expected performance targets are met monthly by working with practice leadership, physicians, and associates; holds associates accountable and develops action or performance improvement plans as needed; reports progress to VP and senior executive team during monthly operations review.

Supports MedStar Research Institute in oncology clinical research initiatives; and WHC Foundation and its Cancer Council in promoting philanthropic support for oncology service line initiatives.

Works with Public Affairs/Marketing to implement an annual oncology marketing and communications plan, including community outreach, events, hotline information services, newsletters, and direct mail campaigns.

Participates in local, regional, and national cancer-related professional meetings to stay abreast of trends in oncology program management.

Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and accreditation standards (e.g., American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer).

Minimum Qualifications Education Master's degree required

Experience 8-10 years of progressive management experience in the healthcare field, with background and experience in oncology required
