Overview
Join to apply for the Medical Receptionist role at Santa Rosa Community Health. This position provides much of the clinic\'s daily communication and reception support. The Medical Receptionist provides phone and reception support to patients and may be assigned in only one of these two work areas at a time. The role focuses on delivering exceptional customer service, including courteous, helpful, accurate, and proactive communication and problem solving to ensure healthcare is provided in the most effective and timely manner. This position is the essential point for accurate data entry regarding patient demographics and insurance.
Hourly Range: $21.00 - $24.75 DOE

Responsibilities
- RECEPTION Area: Check in patients, verify insurance eligibility, determine patient financial status, collect co-pays or sliding-scale fees, and collect fees at discharge for services added during the visit.
- Deliver excellent customer service by putting the patient first, communicating respectfully, and addressing patient needs.
- Demonstrate teamwork by assisting teammates with workload.
- Perform pre-registration and confirmation calls; assist in patient surveys.
- Update and verify patient balances; initiate collection plans as needed.
- Register new patients, collect required information, complete demographic fields in the electronic medical record, and scan documents.
- Reconcile cash receipts daily.
- Schedule appointments for walk-ins, follow-ups, and telephone requests; record no-shows and cancellations.
- Provide information about health services and program eligibility; refer uninsured patients to the Application Assistant.
- Report patient concerns or complaints to a supervisor and maintain a safe, welcoming reception area.
- Assist in maintaining and updating information about services, groups, and classes; support patients with paperwork.
- Other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- PHONE Area: Answer all incoming calls and route to appropriate individuals or departments.
- Schedule appointments per policy; route new patients through the new patient process; triage calls to RN as needed.
- Provide clinical staff with timely communication about patient needs; assist with medication delay problem-solving and route questions to the on-call nurse or provider.
- Provide information about clinic services and program eligibility; participate in ongoing training.
- Other duties as assigned; maintain customer service standards and follow SRCH policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma required.
- Post-secondary education preferred.
Experience
- Experience with high-volume phone work, scheduling, verifying insurance eligibility, and medical records preferred.
- Previous customer service experience preferred.
- Electronic medical records experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
- Proficiency with tasks on the Medical Receptionist competency list; bilingual Spanish and English required at some locations as identified.
- Strong customer service, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills; ability to stay calm in stressful situations; multi-tasking and organization skills.
- Ability to learn new software quickly; computer proficiency and MS Office experience; ability to operate office equipment.
- Flexible hours; knowledge of HIPAA compliance; strong written and verbal communication; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Use standard office equipment; keyboard use for extended periods.
- Effective in-person and telephone communication with a diverse population.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Perform complex mental tasks; collect, interpret, and analyze data.
- Vision requirements for close detail; ability to coordinate multiple tasks; lift up to 20 pounds.
