We are seeking a compassionate, student-centered
Remote School Counselor
to provide virtual academic, social-emotional, and college/career counseling services to K12 students across New Mexico. The ideal candidate is a licensed school counselor in New Mexico who is passionate about equity, mental wellness, and supporting student achievement through a virtual platform. This role involves close collaboration with students, families, teachers, and administrators to foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. Key Responsibilities:
Provide virtual individual and group counseling to support students social-emotional and academic development
Deliver comprehensive school counseling services aligned with the ASCA National Model
Assist students with goal-setting, course planning, and college/career readiness activities
Identify and support students experiencing personal, social, academic, or attendance-related challenges
Respond to student crises and support crisis intervention planning and follow-up
Collaborate with school staff and families to develop intervention plans under MTSS/RTI frameworks
Participate in virtual IEP, 504, and student support team meetings, providing input on student well-being
Maintain accurate, confidential records in compliance with FERPA, state law, and district policies
Promote a safe and respectful virtual school climate for all students
Provide virtual workshops or classroom lessons on SEL, bullying prevention, academic success, etc.
Qualifications:
Masters degree in School Counseling or closely related field
Valid New Mexico School Counselor License
issued by the Public Education Department (Required)
Minimum of 12 years of counseling experience in a school setting preferred
Strong understanding of counseling ethics, child development, and crisis response
Familiarity with IDEA, Section 504, and New Mexico school systems
Comfortable using teletherapy tools and digital platforms for communication and instruction
Reliable high-speed internet and a secure, confidential home workspace
Preferred Skills:
Bilingual (Spanish/English or Navajo/English) highly desirable
Experience providing counseling services in virtual or hybrid school settings
Knowledge of New Mexicos educational systems and student data platforms (e.g., STARS, PowerSchool)
Experience supporting underserved and diverse student populations
