Full-Time 1099 Contract Position Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and licensed
Remote School Social Worker
to support the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students in a virtual learning environment. This professional will work collaboratively with educators, families, and community partners to provide mental health services, intervention support, and case management remotely, in accordance with Michigan Department of Education (MDE) guidelines and special education regulations. Key Responsibilities:
Provide
virtual individual and group counseling
to students experiencing social, emotional, or behavioral challenges.
Conduct
virtual social work assessments
as part of the special education evaluation process.
Contribute to the development and implementation of
IEPs
and
504 Plans
in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Implement virtual
crisis intervention
and response strategies for students in emotional distress or experiencing trauma.
Offer
consultation and support to parents, teachers, and staff
to address students mental health and behavior.
Maintain timely and accurate documentation of services, communications, and case notes in compliance with federal and state regulations.
Coordinate with
community agencies
for referrals and additional family support.
Use virtual platforms (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet, Teams) effectively to engage with students, families, and school staff.
Support
attendance and engagement
initiatives by addressing barriers specific to remote learners.
Assist with the development of
virtual SEL (Social Emotional Learning)
programming and wellness initiatives.
Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Social Work (MSW)
from an accredited institution.
Valid School Social Worker License/Approval
from the Michigan Department of Education.
LMSW (Licensed Master Social Worker) preferred or eligibility for licensure.
Demonstrated experience with
telehealth or virtual service delivery
preferred.
Familiarity with
Michigan Special Education law , MTSS, and trauma-informed practices.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong time management abilities.
Comfortable using virtual learning tools and platforms (e.g., Google Workspace, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, student information systems).
Work Environment & Expectations:
Fully remote position with flexible scheduling during school hours.
Must maintain a
confidential and secure home workspace
to ensure student privacy and compliance with HIPAA/FERPA.
Remote working/work at home options are available for this role.
