One vacancy. Must be bilingual. Thirty-five hours per week. Under general supervision, performs various general to advanced clerical and secretarial duties for the Clerk of Court and Mayor's Court. Work involves preparing and processing information relative to all aspects of cases in the city Mayor's Court; providing assistance to the general public in English and Spanish. The position requires extensive public relations involvement, independent judgement, and organizational skills. Reports to the Office Manager. Assists the public in person or via telephone in English and Spanish with information and inquiries on cases with the City of Kenner Mayor's Court, including updating and processing cases and appropriate paperwork to defendants using the online court management system. Acts as interpreter (Spanish) for defendants in court and with city Prosecutor. Provides Spanish consecutive, simultaneous, and sight interpretation for misdemeanor and traffic case defendants and witnesses. Assists the Office Manager in administrative duties. Schedules trials, hearings, and arraignments. Researches tickets and/or cases for defendants as required. Answers and directs phone calls to appropriate Clerk of Court office personnel. Maintains accurate court records and timely preparation and distribution of court documents. Provides courteous and professional assistance to all who use the court; including attorneys, law enforcement officials, social workers, and other related public and social service agencies, as well as City departments, employees and officials. Provides written translations of court documents and other information to Spanish speaking defendants and the general public as necessary. Upon direction of supervisor, trains new employees in the Clerk of Court office. Researches and prepares dockets, information and reports relative to defendants' cases(s) for court, and updates fines and case dispositions as necessary. Prepares bond refund checks, surety bonds, and motions. Receives and/or reviews various documents such as letters of request from defendants, traffic citations, domestic violence citations, Ordinance 5474 cases, Federal Bureau of Investigation checks, Child Protection Act requests, transmittal letters, Magistrate's notes and directives, electronic mail. Operates a variety of general office equipment such as telephone system, printer, copy machine, calculator, etc. Uses a variety of computer software such as the city court management system, Microsoft Office, Outlook Express, etc. Assists, interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Office Manager, coworkers, Judges, Prosecutors, defendants, Kenner Police Department and the general public. Abides by city of Kenner Personnel Handbook, Safety Manual, and all city and Clerk of Court / Mayor's Court rules, regulations, and policies. May perform any of the following duties: Performs records check on domestic violence and misdemeanor cases for city Prosecutor review. Enters new tickets into court management system and processes payments from defendants. Meets with judges and/or prosecutors to obtain new dispositions on cases; prepares legal letters to defendants; prepares attachment recalls to be faxed to NCIC; prepares notices for trials, hearings, and arraignments; mails notices to defendants. Provides backup support to coworkers as needed. Locates cases for Federal Bureau of Investigation background checks. Retrieves, reviews, and processes incoming traffic and misdemeanor citations from Kenner Police Department ticket system into court management system. Relieves Cashier by handling cash, credit cards, and fines; balances drawer at the end of the day. Performs other related duties as required. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent with six months of secretarial and/or bookkeeping experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and ability. Must be fluent in Spanish and proficient in the operation of the personal computer. Requires a Louisiana Identification Card or Driver's License. Test required: Assessment of training and experience.
