Overview
We are hiring a Research Clerk to support our Bankruptcy Department, which handles consumer bankruptcy cases filed in the Southern District of Texas. This role involves conducting detailed research, reviewing bankruptcy schedules and statements for outstanding taxes, and preparing legal filings. Ideal candidates are analytical, organized, and comfortable working independently after training. Prepare and proofread various judgment payoffs (standard, deficiency, strike-off, private resale, bankruptcy) Draft and process releases of judgment (standard, partial, resale, homestead-related) Respond to phone calls, emails, and mail inquiries related to payoffs and releases Research and prepare Releases of Judgment from the JP list (twice annually) Create and manage taxpayer payment plans Process payoff-related checks and prepare corresponding releases Assist walk-in customers as needed Review files for sale when time permits Support attorneys and manager with administrative and customer service tasks Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (some college preferred) Bilingual in Spanish preferred Customer service experience required Legal or office experience is a plus Knowledge of Oracle systems and real estate/property tax/foreclosure practices is a plus Must be able to type at least 50 WPM Skills
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Excellent written and verbal communication Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) Ability to multitask and manage time effectively Strong proofreading and research capabilities Professional demeanor and punctuality Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
