Banking Lead Deputy Specialist I
The Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector's Office is seeking a proactive, detail-oriented Banking Lead Deputy Specialist I to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with a background in financial processing and customer service who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector's Office is essential for ensuring the proper administration of tax laws and providing vital services to the community. The office plays a key role in local government, handling various financial and administrative tasks, including: Property Tax Collection: Assess and collect property taxes for all eligible commercial and residential property owners and entities. Calculate property taxes based on appraised values and ensure collection and distribution to the appropriate entities. Motor Vehicle Services: Manage commercial and residential vehicle registration, issue license plates, and handle vehicle title transfers, including the collection of associated fees. Voter Registration: Oversee voter registration within the county, issue voter registration certificates, and maintain an accurate voter registration roll. Additional Revenue Collection: Collecting certain fees, fines, and revenues related to permits or state mandates, depending on the county's needs. Duties and Responsibilities: Returned Items & Payment Reversals Review and balance daily returned checks with bank records Enter returned items into the internal database and ensure reconciliation with bank statements Bank Activity Monitoring & Deposit Verification Process daily bank transfers as needed Verify deposit amounts and reconcile internal records with bank reports Research and prepare weekly state banking reports Database Maintenance & Vault Management Maintain electronic banking records by entering and retrieving data for staff use Ensure accuracy and organization of digital files Monitor and maintain banking supplies such as cash tickets, deposit bags, and banking boxes Secure and organize vault items daily under the supervisor's direction Customer Service & Phone Support Provide exceptional service by answering phone calls and assisting with inquiries Address payment discrepancies and account concerns, escalating when necessary General Support Assist with miscellaneous projects and perform other duties as assigned Support additional departmental functions based on operational needs Harris County is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited U.S. institution. Minimum of 1 year of paid work experience in banking, accounting, or financial processing, including financial reconciliation and transaction management. At least 1 year of customer service experience involving cash handling in retail, banking, or a related operational environment. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel Qualifying education, experience, knowledge, and skills must be documented on your job application.
