Banking Lead Deputy Specialist II
The Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector's Office is seeking a proactive, detail-oriented Banking Lead Deputy Specialist II to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in financial processing and customer service who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector's Office is essential for ensuring the proper administration of tax laws and providing vital services to the community. The office plays a key role in local government, handling various financial and administrative tasks, including: Property Tax Collection: Assess and collect property taxes for all eligible commercial and residential property owners and entities. Calculate property taxes based on appraised values and ensure collection and distribution to the appropriate entities. Motor Vehicle Services: Manage commercial and residential vehicle registration, issue license plates, and handle vehicle title transfers, including the collection of associated fees. Voter Registration: Oversee voter registration within the county, issue voter registration certificates, and maintain an accurate voter registration roll. Additional Revenue Collection: Collecting certain fees, fines, and revenues related to permits or state mandates, depending on the county's needs. Duties and Responsibilities: Returned Items & Payment Reversals: Process returned items and reverse payments using the ACT system. Gather and verify documentation for payment reversals. Ensure all required approvals and verifications are completed prior to processing. Maintain accurate records and communicate updates to relevant departments. Bank Activity Monitoring & Deposit Verification: Review daily bank account activity for discrepancies or errors. Verify deposit amounts and reconcile internal records with bank reports. Ensure proper allocation of funds and report inconsistencies as needed. Interdepartmental & Bank Communication: Collaborate with bank personnel to resolve deposit-related issues. Coordinate with Tax Office staff to address payment and refund concerns. Escalate unresolved matters to management for further action. Report Management & Documentation Distribution: Generate and analyze financial reports for accuracy. Distribute adjustments, reports, and miscellaneous documents to appropriate departments. Change Orders & Refund Processing: Print and process change order requests in accordance with policy. Issue and distribute property tax and automobile refund checks. Customer Service & Phone Support: Provide exceptional service by answering phone calls and assisting with inquiries. Address payment discrepancies and account concerns, escalating when necessary. General Support: Assist with miscellaneous projects and perform other duties as assigned. Support additional departmental functions based on operational needs. Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited U.S. institution. Minimum of 2 years of paid work experience in banking, accounting, or financial processing, including financial reconciliation and transaction management. At least 2 years of customer service experience involving cash handling in retail, banking, or a related operational environment. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple assignments. Qualifying education, experience, knowledge, and skills must be documented on your job application. Working Conditions, Mental & Physical Demands: Typically, an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation, and a normal range of temperature and noise level. Largely sedentary role with minor physical effort required; however, it may at times involve long periods of standing, walking, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, lifting 10 lbs. or similar activities (e.g., filing, delivering, sorting). A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on a routine basis. Regular application of basic skills (calculator, keyboard, hand tools, eye/hand coordination). Work Hours: 7:45am
