Overview
Gast Architects is an established, well-respected eleven-person firm in San Francisco’s SOMA district that focuses on both new construction and renovations of custom, high-end residential projects in the Bay Area and beyond. Position Junior Designer – High-End Residential Location: San Francisco (SOMA) | Hybrid Mon & Fri after training; In Office Tues/Wed/Thu
Experience Experience Required:
Internship to 2+ years (office equivalent) •
BIM Proficiency:
Required
Salary & Benefits Salary:
$70,000 – $80,000 annually DOE | Full-time |
Benefits Package:

Responsibilities / What we’re looking for
Experience and deep interest in single family residential design, Type V wood-frame construction, residential products, and detailing. Actual construction experience is a plus.
Demonstrate creative critical thinking and presentation skills
BIM proficiency in 2-D drafting and 3-D modeling (we are an ArchiCAD office and will provide new designers who have BIM experience with significant training in the software)
Experience in developing well-detailed Construction Documents as part of a team
Knowledge of codes and regulations. Local experience in San Francisco is highly valued, but not expected.
Strong communication skills, oral and written
Personable, a team player with high integrity and a sense of humor
Preference will be given to candidates with previous internship experience
How we support you We offer competitive pay ($70K to $80K depending on experience); a superior benefits package (Gold health plan, 100% of premiums paid by firm; profit sharing eligible on 1/1/2027); indoor bike storage and shower; and a casual, supportive environment. Our spacious design studio is located in a recently renovated, mixed-use development. The LEED Gold-certified historic warehouse includes a roof deck for lunches and a green roof.
Work arrangement & eligibility This position is full time and upon reaching proficiency in ArchiCAD, there is flexibility to work from home Mondays & Fridays. You must be a U.S. citizen or have a work permit.
