Position Information
Classification Title: Human Resources Generalist III

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent and 5 years of professional experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- HR experience, preferably in higher education
- Demonstrated experience managing HR operations across multiple employment types (faculty, staff, student workers, etc.)
- Proven track record in compensation analysis and classification systems
- Experience with HRIS platforms, especially OneUSG Connect, UGA Financials, and Data Warehouse
Position Summary: The Office of Research is seeking a detail oriented and collaborative individual for the position of Human Resources Manager. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Manager is responsible for collaborating with unit business leaders and HR colleagues to effectively address and efficiently provide a range of human resource services. This role will contribute to talent acquisition efforts, maintain accurate records, and provide guidance on routine classification, compensation, and employee relations matters. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, a commitment to customer service, and the ability to interpret and apply HR policies and procedures.
Duties/Responsibilities
Human Resource Operations:
- Collaborate with department leaders to develop and revise job descriptions for all employment types (faculty, staff, post docs, graduate assistants, student workers, temps).
- Initiate and manage employment actions including job postings, hiring proposals, separations, onboarding, position funding changes, salary actions, time and labor approvers, and terminations.
- Review and approve OneUSG Connect transactions such as salary actions, time and labor approvers, and terminations.
Compensation & Classification:
- Conduct compensation analyses for salary offers, retentions, in-range adjustments, and other associated salary actions.
- Provide classification guidance and salary recommendations during departmental reorganizations or position evaluations.
- Maintain Compensation and Classification records, perform data audits, and surveil unit trends.
Onboarding and Offboarding:
- Greet new employees and orient them to timekeeping systems, leave policies, payroll timelines, and employment resources.
- Assist hiring managers with provisioning system access for new employees.
- Assist in updating or making more efficient onboarding and offboarding processes to handle increases in volume.
- Manage offboarding processes for the VPR office, advise Center and Institute HR contacts on offboarding process. Ensure offboarding is complete for all departing employees.
Employee Relations & Policy Guidance:
- Provide coaching and counsel to department leaders on employee relations matters, including maintenance of records.
- Collaborate with university offices to address workplace concerns and ensure appropriate action is taken.
- Stay current on USG/UGA policies, procedures, and HR/financial management principles, providing information, interpretation and context to unit leadership, managers, and employees as needed.
Records and Reporting:
- Maintain personnel files in accordance with institutional standards.
- Generate regular and ad hoc reports using OneUSG Connect, UGA Financials, Data Warehouse, and other systems.
- Audit bi-weekly payroll reports and refer to timecards as needed to confirm accuracy of recorded hours and approvals. Consult with supervisors to address discrepancies and provide guidance in processing corrective actions.
Process Improvement and Communication:
- Assist Assistant Director of HR and Director of HR in improving processes for HR transactions within the Unit. Provide input into system design and maintain new systems for accurate record keeping and efficient tracking.
- Assist in writing and distributing HR communications to unit.
