Located in Vineland, NJ, this full-time contract opportunity offers a unique role as a 1:1 Sign Language Interpreter within a K-12 school setting for the upcoming school year. The primary focus is facilitating effective communication for a Deaf or Hard of Hearing student, ensuring equitable access to academic content, classroom dialogue, and social interactions through American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication methods identified in the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Key Responsibilities: Deliver real-time interpretation between spoken English and ASL (or alternate communication mode per IEP) in classroom instruction, school events, and various educational settings. Assist the student in comprehending class material, assignments, and peer interactions. Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and support personnel to implement appropriate accommodations and instructional strategies. Uphold confidentiality and professional boundaries according to FERPA and IDEA regulations. Participate in IEP meetings, providing insights on communication access and student needs. Prepare in advance for classroom lessons to ensure accurate interpretation. Encourage the students independence and self-advocacy within the educational environment. Qualifications: Fluency in ASL with a minimum EIPA score of 3.5; RID or EIPA certification accepted. High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelors degree in ASL Interpreting, Deaf Studies, or related field preferred. At least one year of experience working with school-aged children in educational settings is preferred. Knowledge of Deaf culture and understanding of the educational needs of Deaf or Hard of Hearing students. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This role operates during standard school hours, Monday through Friday, aligned with the academic calendar.
