I&C SCADA Engineer/Specialist - I&C Renewables

Position Summary
The I&C Engineer/Specialist designs, implements, tests, and commissions control system solutions for renewable energy assets. The role requires hands-on experience with SCADA architectures, industrial networking, and controls integration from concept through site commissioning. The ideal candidate is a mid-career engineer who can independently execute work packages, interface with clients, and uphold PAC's quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Development of Ignition SCADA systems for real-time monitoring and control of renewable energy facilities and ROCs.
Development of process control equipment, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Real-Time Automation Controllers (RTAC), Ovation platform, and miscellaneous renewable generation-related instrumentation.
Assist with setting up and configuring SCADA servers as required for project support.
Provide project engineering and configuration for control logic and/or SCADA, including device interface, tag lists, operator graphics, and process alarm implementation.
Create and maintain schematics, documentation, and diagrams as needed for existing systems, new implementations, upgrades, and changes.
Assist in specification, procurement, configuration, field checkout, and commissioning of control and SCADA and control systems.
Assist in developing project scope definitions, estimates, and schedules.
Serve as technical consultant supporting renewable generation facilities with I&C and SCADA related issues, troubleshooting, training, and process improvements to maintain reliable operations.
Assist with maintaining SCADA systems including backups, anti-malware updates, operating system patching, and software updates.
Further the development, process implementation, and procedures of company standards for renewable control and SCADA systems.
Assist with maintaining compliance with Southern Company's cyber security standards, regulatory compliance, and NERC/CIP requirements applicable to renewable facilities.
Ensure change management processes are followed.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering (ABET accredited), Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical degree
Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Industrial Controls, or related technical degree
Experience
Experience using and managing plant control or SCADA systems strongly preferred.
RTACs, Allen Bradley PLCs, or Ovation experience.
Ignition SCADA integration or configuration and HMI screen development experience strongly preferred.
Inverter Based Resource (IBR) SCADA or control system experience a plus.
Experience with data management techniques to access, integrate, and present data from multiple sources using industrial automation communication protocols (e.g. Modbus, OPC, DNP3)
Windows Server administration, including Active Directory, Windows Clustering, terminal servers or thin clients, iSCSI, DNS and DHCP is a plus.
Experience with the following software platforms desired: Microsoft SQL Server or other popular database servers, VMware or other hypervisors, and disaster recovery solutions (e.g. Acronis Cyber Protect or Quest Rapid Recovery).
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Troubleshooting communications and/or system issues associated with control and SCADA systems.
Computer-aided drawing (CAD); AutoCAD or Microsoft Visio a plus
Structured text programming; Python or other scripting language a plus
High degree of familiarity with OT systems and cyber security best practices, including anti-malware and disaster recovery.
High-level understanding of networking and firewalls, including concepts such as NATs and VLANs, and experience using tools such as Wireshark.
Organizing and managing multiple projects at the same time.
Proven interpersonal and communication skills.
Benefits
Base salary range: $105,000 – $125,000 (DOE).
