Wireless RF Technician IV

GCI's Wireless RF Technician IV will be responsible for performing advanced troubleshooting, optimization, upgrades, commissioning, maintenance and repair of Wireless RF transmission lines, antennas, and cell site or transport related equipment for the Wireless GSM/CDMA/UMTS/LTE Radio Access Network (RAN) and Microwave network. Contributes to all aspects of delivering quality service to the companys customers and supports other departments efforts to improve customer experience. Essential Duties And Responsibilities At All Levels
Technician Levels: Trainee, Associate, I, II Complete basic equipment installations, testing, and Operational Site Acceptance. Perform installation, adjustment, advanced troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of Wireless RF transmission lines, antennas, and other cell site or transport related equipment throughout urban and rural wireless markets. Support technicians in remote locations (phone, CLI, Cherwell ticket maintenance, and workflow). Use and operate multiple types of test equipment and software tools. Operate test equipment to perform corrective tasks related to transmission towers, antennas, coax, grounding, and related systems. Support Engineers in field-related aspects for network optimization projects; collaborate with RF Engineering and optimization support teams for pre and post optimization adjustments and statistical analysis. Perform site audits of cell sites and towers to ensure installations meet specifications. Update and maintain daily work and safety logs. Update and maintain cell site and tower information including inspections, FAA and FCC documentation, lighting systems, access, and risk assessment information databases. Coordinate with Management and Regulatory parties to ensure the tower network meets FAA and FCC guidelines and requirements. Perform daily operational checks on cell site RF and associated equipment. Maintain compliance with documentation standards, company policies, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements. Complete required training (written, online, in-person, vendor, and on-the-job). Technician Levels: III, IV, Senior
Mentor and train junior technicians Troubleshoot and repair all cell site equipment, including replacement of electronics parts and RF connectors; coordinate with transport technicians to expedite circuit repairs. Perform installation, adjustment, advanced troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of Wireless RF transmission lines, antennas, and other cell site or transport related equipment in urban and rural markets. Work with RF Engineering and RAN Operations to support network optimization projects. Perform site redlines to verify contractor quality of work and standards compliance. Perform corrective and preventative maintenance of cell sites, microwave, and power systems (generators, batteries, AC units, towers, grounding, etc.). Collaborate with other technicians, engineers, and vendors to resolve system problems and customer complaints. Provide field support for new cell construction, equipment installation, cell turn up, and cell optimization as needed. Update daily logs with site-specific information and maintain system documentation; inspect and maintain building grounding systems. Support SMC staff by reporting on network outages and ongoing work. Complete required training (written, online, in person, vendor, and on-the-job). Competencies

Required:
A combination of relevant work experience and/or education sufficient to perform the duties of the job may substitute to meet the total years required on a year-for-year basis. High School diploma or equivalent. Associates Degree in electronics, telecommunications trade school, or equivalent training. Minimum of nine (9) years of experience in a field operations telecommunications industry, including a minimum of six (6) years in wireless telecommunications, wireless site construction, or related field. Upon hire, must obtain and maintain tower climber certification. Preferred: Experience with Linux, Unix, Cisco IOS, CLI, SSH, and FTP. Knowledge of RF propagation principles (UMTS/HSPA, CDMA/EVDO, LTE, microwave). Tower climber certification. Relevant telecom industry or job-specific certifications. Driving Requirements
Must possess a valid drivers license, proof of insurance, satisfactory driving record; ability to drive company-owned, company-provided, or personal vehicle for company business; defensive driving training may be required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS And WORKING CONDITIONS
Travel within Alaska may be required; work at heights up to 500 feet; occasional work below 200 feet; must be certified tower climber. Ability to ascend/descend towers, climb ladders, and work on uneven surfaces; lift up to 70 pounds; frequent lifting of up to 20 pounds. Dexterity to use hand tools; color vision and depth perception; hearing adequate for equipment operation; tolerate adverse weather conditions. Work in varied, sometimes harsh environments; overtime, shift work, on-call may be required. DOT or non-DOT drug and alcohol testing may be required; fitness-for-duty evaluations may be required.
