Overview

Substitute Teachers/Teacher Aides are needed in the New Providence School District. This role involves supporting classroom instruction by following the teacher’s lesson plan and maintaining a productive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the lesson plan left by the teacher for whom you are substituting in accordance with the district's philosophy, goals and objectives
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
  • Establish and maintain order in the classroom
  • Maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, materials, equipment and facilities
  • Uphold and enforce school rules
  • Cooperate with school personnel
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with other employees
  • Report to the principal or their designee at the beginning and end of the school day

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Applicants may hold a valid teaching certificate; a Substitute Certificate may or may not be required depending on certification status
  • Complete the Criminal History Background Check and pay associated administrative fees
  • Print and complete the NJDOE fingerprinting process (IdentoGO) as part of the background clearance
  • Schedule and attend fingerprinting appointment and bring required identification
  • Apply Online for the Substitute Certificate
  • Provide documentation as requested (transcripts, negative Mantoux test, etc.)
  • Bring required items to appointments (e.g., Social Security Card, valid photo ID, etc.)
  • Attend the certification process and, after completion, have interview and training as applicable
