Field Meter Technician I

position provides support to the Metro Atlanta area and other statewide locations outside Metro Atlanta, including customer service, metering, distribution, and engineering departments. The role involves installation, removal, and connection/disconnection of service due to nonpayment for all AMI residential and small commercial class meters. The technician will perform testing, maintenance, and repairs for residential and small commercial self-contained meter sockets, ensuring compliance with GPCs Blue Book standards for AMI meter installations. Available Locations: Vidalia, GA Dublin, GA Responsibilities include: Maintaining knowledge of GPCs metering installation standards, safety, environmental regulations, OSHA regulations, and practicing safe work methods. Interacting professionally with customers and providing excellent customer service. Scheduling installations and coordinating with local forces and contractors. Ensuring compliance with GPC standards for meter installations. Maintaining residential and small commercial meters and accessories, inspecting, repairing, testing, and verifying connections. Identifying hazards and repairing meter bases as needed. Performing audits of AMI system meters as per PSC requirements. Performing other duties related to Customer Service, Metering, Distribution, and Engineering departments, including storm duty. Requirements: High school diploma and basic electricity knowledge. Technical certificate or equivalent in Electronics/Electrical/Telecommunications preferred. Passing the CAST or equivalent test. Completing and passing a 5-day Meter Service Order training. 2-3 years of experience installing and repairing meters (preferred). Ability to work in extreme weather conditions. Good computer skills and ability to obtain AMI and ARMS III training. Valid drivers license and good driving record. Self-motivated, flexible, and available for overtime and storm duty. Additional notes: Position is covered by a union agreement with IBEW Local 84. Starting pay is $4378/month ($25.25/hour), non-negotiable. Candidate must provide safety toe shoes/boots and meet physical requirements.
