Overview
Field Meter Technician I role at Georgia Power Company supporting the Metro Atlanta area and statewide locations. Responsible for installation, removal, connecting/disconnecting service for all AMI residential and small commercial meters due to nonpayment. Perform testing, maintenance, and repairs for residential and small commercial self-contained meter sockets. Ensure metering equipment complies with Georgia Power Company's Blue Book standards for AMI meter installations. Available Locations
Savannah, GA Springfield, GA Responsibilities
Maintain thorough knowledge of applicable rules associated with GPC's metering installation standards, safety, environmental regulations, OSHA regulations, and safe work methods; use required PPE and conduct job briefings. Interact with customers daily to provide world-class customer service. Schedule installations with customers and coordinate work with local forces and electrical contractors as necessary. Ensure compliance with GPC's Blue Book standards for meter installations. Maintain electric residential and small commercial meters, metering systems and accessories used for installations; perform inspections, repairs, testing and verification of connections. Repair meter bases as needed in accordance with GPC standards; identify metering hazards and perform repairs as required. Perform audits of AMI system meters as prescribed by PSC requirements. Perform other related duties for the Region Customer Service, Metering, Distribution, and Engineering departments as assigned; includes storm duty when applicable. Job Requirements
High school diploma with knowledge of basic electricity required. Technical certificate or equivalent in Electronics/Electrical/Telecommunications preferred. Must pass the CAST and/or additional test prescribed by SCS HR testing. Must complete and pass 5-day GPC-MS-MSR-Meter Service Order training. 2 to 3 years of experience installing meters, repairing meter bases and removing self-contained residential/commercial meters (preferred). Exhibit and demonstrate Southern Company's values of trust, performance, and service. Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions; ability to interact professionally with customers; strong computer skills and willingness to obtain AMI and ARMS III system training. Valid driver's license with a good driving record; self-motivated with ability to work with limited supervision; flexibility to work overtime as needed. Other Requirements
To be considered for an interview, candidate must pass (or have passed) the Construction and Skilled Trades test (CAST). Available for storm duty and overtime, including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays; travel to other company locations may be required. Provide proper safety toe shoes or boots; meet physical requirements (bending, kneeling, crawling, walking, hearing, overhead reaching, stooping, standing long periods) and work outdoors in all weather conditions; ability to lift heavy objects. Compensation and Benefits
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between Georgia Power Company and IBEW Local 84. Starting pay for all hires is $4,378 per month (approximately $25.25 per hour); union membership is optional and pay is non-negotiable at start.
