The practice of interventional radiography (cardiology and vascular) is performed by EP Lab Tech II/radiologic technologists responsible for administering ionizing radiation for diagnostic, therapeutic, or research purposes. They produce images at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed independent practitioner, integrating scientific knowledge, technical skills, patient interaction, and compassionate care to achieve diagnostic or therapeutic outcomes. Responsibilities Determine radiographic exposure factors and assist LIP with fluoroscopic and interventional procedures. Perform non-interpretive fluoroscopic procedures as prescribed by a LIP. Start and maintain intra-arterial access and participate in physiologic monitoring. Perform manual and mechanical hemostasis, including using closure devices. Ensure patient safety and proper documentation of imaging orders and clinical history. Verify informed consent and prepare patients for procedures. Apply ALARA principles to minimize radiation exposure. Perform venipuncture and establish intravenous access as per protocol. Identify and escalate emergency situations appropriately. Provide patient education and participate in quality assurance activities.
Qualifications Registry by ARRT (ARRT-R or ARRT CI) and current certification. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers. Minimum 1 year of IR Technologist experience required; 1-3 years preferred. Graduation from a JRC-accredited Radiologic Technology program; Bachelor's degree preferred.
Additional Requirements
Interventional Technologists perform independently and assist licensed practitioners. Must adhere to regulatory standards, policies, and safety standards. Shift rotations, on-call, and weekend work may be required. Physical ability to lift 20-50 lbs, stand, sit, and perform repetitive motions. Strong reasoning, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Physical and Emotional Demands
Includes prolonged standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, and handling a fast-paced environment with frequent customer interactions. Equal Opportunity
