The practice of interventional radiography (cardiology and vascular) is performed by EP Lab Tech II/radiologic technologists responsible for administering ionizing radiation to patients of all ages (from newborn to geriatric) for diagnostic, therapeutic, or research purposes. An interventional technologist performs radiographic procedures and related techniques, producing images for interpretation by a licensed independent practitioner. This role integrates scientific knowledge, technical skills, patient interaction, and compassionate care to achieve diagnostic or therapeutic outcomes. Key Responsibilities

Determine radiographic exposure factors and assist LIP with fluoroscopic and specialized interventional procedures. Perform non-interpretive fluoroscopic procedures as prescribed by a LIP. Start and maintain intra-arterial access as prescribed, participate in physiologic monitoring. Perform manual and mechanical hemostasis, assist with patient safety and transport. Receive, relay, and document imaging orders; verify clinical history and informed consent. Prepare patients, apply ALARA principles, perform venipuncture and IV access, administer medications as prescribed. Evaluate image quality, identify emergencies, and provide patient education. Mentor students and participate in quality assurance activities. Licensure & Certification

Registry by ARRT (ARRT-R, ARRT-VI, or ARRT-CI). Current ARRT certification for employment and ongoing employment. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Experience & Education

Required: 1 year of IR technologist experience; graduation from an ARRT-recognized Radiologic Technology program. Preferred: 1-3 years of IR experience; experience in an academic medical setting; Bachelor's degree preferred. Additional Requirements

Independently perform and assist in radiologic exams based on physician orders and safety standards. Participate in shift rotations, on-call, weekends, and after-hours as needed. Physical activities include lifting, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motion, and computer work. Must handle a fast-paced environment, multiple priorities, and adapt to change. Interventional Technologists are considered 'Essential Employees' and may be required to report to work as per VCUHS policy. #J-18808-Ljbffr
