Position Overview The Surgery - Histo & Immuno department has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Medical Technologist 2 (H). The incumbent performs microbiological, molecular biological, and immunological tests on body specimens to aid in treatment and diagnosis, and supports quality assurance and instrument maintenance.
Core Job Functions
Verify specimen identification with physician’s orders, prepare specimens, and handle all specimens safely.
Analyze testing results and interpret abnormal or unusual findings.
Research and prepare patient data, referring all data and results to pathologists for evaluation.
Calibrate equipment, order supplies, and maintain inventory.
Recognize test inconsistencies, take corrective actions, and support colleagues in resolving issues.
Administer quality-control tests and maintain data records.
Assist in orienting and training staff on laboratory techniques and operations.
Adhere to university and departmental policies and safeguard assets.
Core Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
Current Florida Medical Technologist License.
Minimum of 2 years relevant experience.
Department Addendum Follow all safety and regulatory protocols, perform instrument maintenance and calibration, conduct quality-control testing, and perform high complexity tests in molecular, histocompatibility, immunology, serology, and other areas as specified. Use specific software for data analysis, identify problems affecting test performance, and report results in laboratory systems. Maintain inventory, meet turnaround times, respond to on-call duties, participate in proficiency testing, and train staff. Obtain 12 CE credits annually in Histocompatibility.
Qualifications Specific to Department Bachelor’s Degree, Florida Medical Technologist License, Certified Histocompatibility Technologist/Specialist preferred, with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
