Vascular Sonographers operate specialized equipment that transmits high-frequency ultrasound waves to produce pictures of the vascular system. They primarily scan arterial and venous blood vessels. Duties & Responsibilities
Performs the technical aspects of all arterial and venous studies on hospital and clinical patients. Positions patients for scans; sets up and adjusts equipment for each scan. Prepares supplies, instruments and equipment; assists physicians during related procedures. Selects and adjusts equipment and transducers to obtain, record, store, transmit and print optimal images. Confer with physicians to determine if additional images or information is required. Completes patient records, preliminary report documentation and patient charges. Communicates with other departments to schedule exams and same-day add-ons for patients. Cleans and disinfects transducers according to manufacturer recommendations and infection control standards. Maintains supplies in vascular ultrasound rooms and informs the manager when supplies are depleted. Provides technical instruction to students, employees, and medical residents. Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent. Current/valid registration, certification or licensure in vascular sonography by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (RVT) or Registered Vascular Sonographer through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Current/valid CPR Certification from the American Heart Association. Preferred Qualifications
