Vascular Sonographer . The Vascular Sonographer will perform various noninvasive laboratory diagnostic tests of venous and arterial disease. This individual will obtain a brief relevant medical history of the patient's vascular problem by interview and review of current and/or old medical records. Pertinent diagnostic findings will be documented in the patient's vascular laboratory chart and discussed with the referring physician as required. The Vascular Sonographer will work under the direct supervision of the Technical Director of the Vascular Laboratory, who is responsible to the Medical Director of the laboratory. Responsibilities
Perform noninvasive vascular tests, collect imaging data, and assemble data in the patient's vascular laboratory record. Assess carotid disease using duplex ultrasound imaging. Evaluate possible deep and superficial venous insufficiency and deep venous obstruction using duplex ultrasound. Assess upper and lower extremity arterial disease with Doppler and other techniques (blood pressure cuff occlusion and/or duplex ultrasound). Assess lower extremity arterial disease at rest and after treadmill exercise; evaluate small arterial disease with photo plethysmography (PPG) when indicated. Assess renal and mesenteric arterial disease and abdominal arterial aneurysmal disease by duplex ultrasound imaging. Bill vouchers for tests performed and file this information with the appropriate billing offices. Maintain the laboratory in good working condition and ensure adequate levels of laboratory supplies; testing is performed on outpatients and inpatients of the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Formulate preliminary interpretation of test data and document interpretation in the patient's medical records when appropriate. Advise physicians on the indications, performance, and reliability of these tests as they relate to the patient's clinical problem under evaluation. Assist with the correlation of Vascular Lab examinations with the Gold Standard and with the accreditation process (IAC) of the lab. Educate patients, employees, Vascular Fellows, Medical and Surgical House Staff, and students in the basics of ultrasound and anatomy and physiology. Participate in Ultrasound Students and Vascular Fellows training, education and scanning opportunities in the Vascular Lab during rotations. Contribute to planning and distribution of the Vascular Lab operational schedule with the Lead Sonographer and Technical Director. Collaborate with the Technical Director and noninvasive vascular lab staff in developing and implementing policies and procedures per IAC guidelines. Perform day-to-day vascular lab operations in the absence of the Technical Director; participate in clinical research when applicable. Minimum Qualifications
Certification as a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, or RVT eligible within the first year of employment; or graduation from an accredited sonography program if not currently RVT. Minimum of 12 months of full-time clinical vascular testing experience with at least 600 noninvasive vascular examinations. Ability to assist patients on and off examination tables and position patients for studies. Ability to move and position large ultrasound equipment; occasional lifting and pushing may be required. Educational equivalencies may substitute for required experience per Johns Hopkins University guidelines. Additional role details: Classified Title: Vascular Sonographer. Employment type: Full-time.
