White 11 is in search of a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Patient Care Assistant I (PCA). This individual must be able to provide Day and Night schedule, and coverage on rotating weekends and holidays. The medical unit, part of the teaching service at MGH, is a twenty-four bed acute unit, located in the historic White Building in Boston, MA. The patients on this unit represent a vast adult population with a wide range of complex medical problems including cardiovascular, pulmonary, endocrine, neurological, psychosocial and infectious disease. Collaboration with all health care workers across disciplines is fundamental to our care on White 11. Schedule: Days (7am-7pm) and Nights (7pm-7am). Mandatory weekend shifts every month. Responsibilities Working under the direction of licensed personnel, assist patients with activities of daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating. Assist with taking patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration. Performs vital signs, weights/heights, intakes, and outputs with accuracy and within established time frame and/or as requested. Completes all documentation in the medical record as required. Interacts with patients and their families effectively. Help patients with basic hygiene tasks, including bathing and dressing, helping them use the toilet if needed, and feeding them. Assist with turning and repositioning patients in bed and helping them move between the bed and a wheelchair if needed. Listen to health concerns from patients and report those concerns to the nurses.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No. Licenses and Credentials: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (Data Conversion - Various Issuers preferred); Certified Medical Assistant (National Certification - Various Issuers preferred); Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (Massachusetts - Massachusetts Office of Emergency Medical Services preferred); Nursing Assistant (LNA - New Hampshire - New Hampshire Board of Nursing preferred). Experience: 1-2 years in patient care/elder care preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Knowledge of medical terminology. Strong patient/customer service skills. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds. Proficient computer skills to work efficiently with electronic medical records.
