A K-12 educational setting in Waukegan, IL is seeking an experienced Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to support students with visual impairments. Key Responsibilities: Assess and develop orientation and mobility plans tailored to individual student needs. Provide direct instruction to students on safe travel techniques using cane skills, public transportation, and spatial awareness. Collaborate with teachers, parents, and related service providers to integrate mobility strategies into individualized education programs (IEPs). Monitor student progress and adjust strategies for optimal outcomes. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and maintain detailed documentation. Preferred Qualifications: Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS or equivalent). Experience working with K-12 students who have visual impairments. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse school communities. Knowledge of assistive technology and adaptive equipment relevant to mobility instruction. Location: Position based in Waukegan, Illinois within a K-12 school environment. Contract Details: Full academic school year duration. Contract employment status.
