Under the direction of a Principal, perform a variety of secretarial and administrative assistant duties to relieve the school site administrator of administrative and clerical detail; plan, coordinate and organize office activities and coordinate flow of communications, correspondence and information for the administrator.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
The School Administrative Assistant II classification performs secretarial and administrative assistant duties in support of a Principal of a school with K-8 programs or an alternative secondary school. Incumbents provide support for larger and more complex office operations. The School Administrative Assistant III provides administrative support to the Principal of a middle school or comprehensive high school. Incumbents perform the most complex duties in the series and the classification requires thorough knowledge of high school organization, operations, policies and procedures. The School Administrative Assistant I classification provides primary secretarial support to the Principal of an assigned elementary school. Incumbents relieve the administrator of administrative detail and coordinate office activities and flow of communications and information.
THE CANDIDATE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to sufficient experience, training and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above. Typically, this would be gained through: graduation from high school and four years secretarial experience involving frequent public contact and primary support for a school administrator.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Some positions in this classification may require First Aid and CPR certification issued by an authorized agency.
Some positions in this class may be required to translate oral and written communications between English and a designated second language

TESTING INFORMATION The examination process may be comprised of multiple choice exam, performance assessment, computer skills exam, or any combination of assessment appropriate to determine technical ability to perform the duties listed in the
Step 1: Application Screening
(pass/fail) Applications will be screened for minimum qualifications. Applications will be evaluated and ranked according to criteria that most closely meets the needs of the department, so it is essential that applicants provide as much detail as possible and answer

If there is a high number of qualified applicants, a comparative screening will be conducted to determine which of the applicants will be selected for invitation to the performance examination. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications for the position will be emailed an examination pass. Exam passes will not be sent until after the closing date for the position. A photo ID and the examination pass are required for admittance to the exam.

ADDITIONAL SALARY INFORMATION
New Hires - Initial Salary Placement The District has established criteria in place that recognizes the education and experience new employees bring to their role in supporting students and the services of the District. Upon approval of the Director of Classified Human Resources, a new employee may be provided with advanced step placement up to Step 5 based on the following criteria: Additional qualifying experience beyond that required for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of experience related to the classification) Additional education at the college level beyond the educational requirements established for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of education related to the position) All new hires placed at Step 1 of the salary schedule will advance to Step 2 after successfully completing the six-month probationary period. Longevity increments are offered based on years of service with the District: an additional 1.20% of base salary after completing 4 years of service, 4.10% at 9 years, 7.08% at 14 years, 10.15% at 19 years, 13.31% at 24 years, 16.46% at 29 years.
Promotional and/or transfer candidates
will be placed at the appropriate step in accordance with established Personnel Commission Rules & Regulations.
Education Incentives All active, regular classified employees are eligible for an education incentive if they possess a college degree above and beyond the stated minimum qualifications for their classification. AA/AS = 2.50% BA/BS = 4.00% MA/MS = 5.00% Ed.D./Ph.D/JD = 6.00% (Percentage increase on base salary, paid monthly)

Vacation is earned based on assigned hours.
