Head Lifeguard Positions
Juneau Pools is seeking to hire two (2) Head Lifeguard positions to join our energetic Augustus Brown Pool team! This position is under the direction of the Pool Supervisor. The incumbent supervises temporary positions including swim instructors, aquatic attendants, and lifeguards. The incumbent oversees the pool operation in the absence of the Pool Supervisor. The incumbent oversees facility rentals. We are looking for professional, vigilant and attention orientated individuals who enjoy working with the public and understand the importance of aquatics in our community. Applicants must also be a proficient swimmer and able to work well as part of a team of varying ages and experience levels and be able to handle high paced and occasionally stressful situations. Our aquatic team is a dynamic team who work cohesively together and are dedicated to making aquatic opportunities available to the community. Aquatic staff enjoy flexibility in scheduling as well as a complimentary pool pass for the employee. This position will primarily work at the Augustus Brown Swimming Pool, but may also be asked to work at the Dimond Park Aquatic Center. Our facilities are open to the public seven days a week from 5am-8:30 pm Monday-Friday and 9am-6pm on weekends. Opens and closes pool facility. Inspects facility for cleanliness and for unusual circumstances before opening the facility for public use. Monitors facility public use areas for cleanliness and directs staff to clean as needed. Cleans, sweeps, mops the natatorium, and shovels snow as needed. Responsible for vacuuming the pool on a daily basis. Tests and records water chemical levels for chlorine and pH levels as well as alkalinity, calcium hardness, and salinity levels. Adds pool chemicals as directed by the Pool Supervisor. Checks sauna for correct temperature settings and ON/OFF operation. Monitors air quality. Reports any issues with the facility regarding maintenance, water, and air quality to the facility supervisor. Lifeguards as needed. Responds to emergencies and gives first aid. Enforces facility rules regarding use of pool, exercise area, and general public areas. Gives staff necessary items to perform their duties (i.e., the cash till for Aquatic attendants). Checks that staff are on duty as scheduled. Observes on-duty staff including Aquatic Attendants, lifeguards, and aquatic instructors. Reports to the Pool Supervisor on staff's performance. Recommends to the Pool Supervisor any problems or disciplinary measures experienced with staff. May use personal vehicle for facility errands, bank runs, etc. Experience: Certified as an American Red Cross Lifeguard or the equivalent; AND Current First Aid and CPR certificates, AND At least 18 years of age at time of appointment. Must have a minimum of 6 months working for Juneau Pools. To be considered for this position you must be at least 18 years of age and hold current Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications issued by The Red Cross of America (or equivalent).
