The Bureau of Vital Statistics operates a statewide system for the registration of births, deaths, and other vital events that happen within the state of Ohio. We are currently seeking a customer service assistant to provide information and communicate procedures to obtain or amend vital records. This job entails the following tasks: Provides information and respond to inquiries, requests, and/or complaints from internal and/or external customers received by incoming phone calls and other means of communication (e.g., in writing and/or by email, fax, in-person) Reviews and verifies legal paperwork (e.g., birth and death corrections/affidavits, abortions, adoptions, paternities, court ordered corrections) for accuracy and completeness Makes sure all necessary data that is part of the public record portion of a birth and death certificate is contained within the legal paperwork Indexes and cross references legal paperwork to original birth and death records using manual and electronic methods (i.e., IPHIS) Proofs and types documents and makes corrections (i.e., birth and death corrections/affidavits, abortions, adoptions, paternities, court ordered corrections) This position will report to 4200 Surface Road, Columbus, Ohio, working in office Monday - Friday during core business hours. Note: in the telecommunications section, within the Ohio Department of Public Safety, employees will automatically be reassigned to the Customer Services Assistant 2, 64432 classification after serving 6 months as a Customer Service Assistant 1, 64431. Job Skills: Customer Service Technical: Clerical & Data Entry, Operational and Administrative Support Professional: Attention to Detail, Confidentiality, Customer Focus Official educational transcripts are required for all post-high school educational accomplishments, coursework or degrees claimed on the application. Failure to provide transcripts within five (5) working days of being requested will cause the applicant to be eliminated from further consideration. All answers to the supplemental questions must be supported by the work experience/education provided on your civil service application. Unless required by legislation, the selected candidate will begin at Pay Grade 27, Step 1 of the union (OCSEA) Pay Range Schedule ($21.93 per hour), with an opportunity for pay increase after six months ($22.60) of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.
