Overview

Human Resources Assistant will provide clerical and technical support for human resources operations. Responsibilities include overseeing training programs, assisting with job announcements, evaluating qualifications, managing student and volunteer employment programs, conducting new employee orientation, timekeeping and leave inquiries, initiating and processing pre-employment background investigations, maintaining personnel files, and composing documents using office software. Responsibilities will increase and become more complex as training and experience progress.

Duties

  • Overseeing the District’s training program and identifying employees’ training needs
  • Assisting with the development and posting of job announcements
  • Evaluating qualifications of candidates
  • Assist with managing the District’s student and volunteer employment programs
  • Conducting new employee orientation
  • Serving as a timekeeper and assisting employees with leave questions and resolving leave issues
  • Initiating and processing pre-employment background investigations
  • Maintaining a variety of personnel files
  • Composing a variety of written documents utilizing various types of office automation software

Conditions of employment

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one-year probationary period
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement
  • You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position

Qualifications

GS-5: To be eligible at the GS-5 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level; or four years of education above high school; or a combination of both. Specialized experience includes performing office duties such as reviewing documents for completeness, providing information about processes, processing time and attendance, assisting with pre-employment procedures, maintaining files, and entering information into an automated system.

GS-6: To be eligible at the GS-6 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level, including duties in staffing and recruitment, time/leave processing, providing HR information, onboarding, and maintaining personnel files.

To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Education

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used if comparable to an accredited U.S. degree. Evidence of equivalency must be provided if applicable. All education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
