Human Resources Assistant
The Human Resources Assistant will be responsible for providing a variety of clerical and technical assistance in support of human resources operations. Typical work assignments will include overseeing the District's training program and identifying employees' training needs; assisting with the development and posting of job announcements; evaluating qualifications of candidates; assisting with managing the District's student and volunteer employment programs; conducting new employee orientation; serving as a timekeeper and assisting employees with leave questions and resolving leave issues; initiating and processing pre-employment background investigations; maintaining a variety of personnel files; and composing a variety of written documents utilizing various types of office automation software. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Qualifications: GS-5: To be eligible at the GS-5 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level in Federal service or four years of education above the high school level or a combination of both specialized experience and education as explained below. Specialized experience is defined as experience working in an office environment performing duties such as reviewing documents for completeness and obtaining additional information as required; providing general information about processes, procedures, and regulations; processing time and attendance for employees; assisting with pre-employment procedures; establishing and maintaining a variety of files and records; entering information into an automated system. GS-6: To be eligible at the GS-6 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level. Specialized experience is defined as experience working in an office environment providing human resources assistance such as assisting with staffing and recruitment; processing time and attendance for employees; providing information pertaining to a variety of human resources matters; assisting with pre-employment processing and onboarding; reviewing documents for completeness and obtaining additional information as required; establishing and maintaining a variety of personnel files; and entering information into an automated system or database. To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.)
