Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is seeking a creative and talented instructor focused on student success who has a strong knowledge background to fulfill the tenure-track role of Electrical Systems Technology Instructor in the Corrections Education program located at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla, Washington. The start date is at the beginning of the Winter quarter in January 2026.

This position is filled to fulfill a contract awarded to Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) by the

Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges

(WSBCTC) to operate a correctional education program at WSP in accordance with an interagency agreement with the Department of Corrections. Walla Walla Community College and its employees working in a correctional education program are expected to follow all Department of Corrections (DOC) Policies, IT and other Security requirements, follow DOC Operational Memorandums, and comply with the Superintendent's directions.

General Description: The workforce faculty at WWCC are innovative and passionate professionals focused on student success. We are seeking a creative and dynamic individual who will become an active and engaged member of our education team. Teaching in Workforce Education is similar to on-the job training, which people in the industry do every day. This position will teach 212 days a year face-to-face instruction with students at the Washington State Penitentiary.

This technical certificate prepares the student to enter cooperative training in an energy-related field. Often these training experiences result in long-term employment with the training entity. This certificate is also designed to be a pre-apprenticeship preparation for an electrical career. This concentration provides students opportunities to gain the knowledge and skills needed to: read blueprints and technical diagrams; install and inspect wiring, control and lighting systems, including transformers and circuit breakers; and troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair or replace wiring and equipment safely to NEC standards using a variety of testing instruments, hand and power tools.

Certificate Outcomes:

Demonstrate the highest standards of personal and professional safety.

Apply electrical: safety, theory, vocabulary, and calculations of series, parallel, and combination circuits involving direct and alternating current.

Demonstrate knowledge of: resistors, inductors and capacitors; resistive-inductive-capacitive reactance circuits, single and three-phase transformers, DC generators and motors, three-phase alternators, and single and three-phase motors.

Wire and test various types of electrical circuits based on their schematics.

Describe and apply proper safety procedures for working with rotating machinery, pressurized vessels and systems, chemicals, ladders and energy, electricity, hot and cold fluids, and heavy objects.

Participate in the Electrical Technology Advisory committee.

Curriculum development.

Provide clear explanations, assignments and directions for students with a varied degree of abilities.

Utilize best practices when implementing technology in the classroom.

Assign and submit grades and maintain student records.

Participate in assessments of college-wide and discipline-specific outcomes.

Administer frequent assessments, both classroom and labs

Provide students with a comprehensive syllabus that aligns with the Master Course Outline for each class.

Adhere to the six Instructional Competencies (outlined below).

Related Responsibilities:

Advise and mentor students on program options, career plans and graduation requirements.

Work in partnership with the Workforce faculty and staff and attend regular meetings

Serve on college and/or faculty committees.

Participate in community activities and form community and industrial partnerships as related to instructional assignments and interests.

Maintain excellence in and commitment to professional development activities, which include discipline-specific knowledge and best teaching practices.

Required Qualifications: Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at the discretion of the college. Experience for this position can be obtained through varies paths such as:

Associate of Applied Science degree in Electrical Technology or Energy Systems Technology; or

Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering; or

Documented completion of an Apprenticeship program (e.g. IBEW or CITC) and/or current electrical journey-level license; or

Extensive experience as a technician for a power generation utility; or

Experience teaching/training mechanical-electrical concepts; or

Military experience in the role of engineer.; or

Minimum of three years of related work experience in an industrial maintenance mechanic/electrical technician role; or

Recent WWCC Energy Systems Technology program graduate)

Additional Desirable Qualifications

Recent teaching or training experience in Electrical Systems or related field.

Experience in student advising or mentoring.

Experience with the community college system.

Experience using online learning management systems.

Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Conditions/Terms of Employment

This is a full-time 212-day tenure-track Assistant Professor position is located inside the Washington State Penitentiary, an adult male prison. Interacts daily with students (incarcerated individuals), instructors, counselors, DOC, and WWCC staff. Successful candidate must have the ability to travel between buildings with or without accommodations. Washington State Penitentiary is fully ADA compliant. The campus is tobacco free institution.

Faculty terms and conditions of employment are negotiated with their exclusive bargaining representative, the Association for Higher Education. A complete copy of the agreement can be found on the

Persons hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of lawful authorization to work in the United States within three (3) days of employment and official college transcripts. WWCC participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. All Walla Walla Community College staff members employed at one of the Correction Education facilities must be cleared by an FBI background check before being hired into such positions and successfully complete a 3-week corrections training program. Department of Correction positions are grant funded and funding is not guaranteed. Upon loss of grant funding, the position will end. WWCC does not absorb the cost to fund DOC grant positions.

Compensation: The College has a negotiated faculty salary schedule. Employee placement on the schedule is determined by education level and experience. Salary is dependent on the number of days of the contract and the candidate's placement on the negotiated faculty salary schedule. Initial placement is generally

$87,969 - $100,287

for a standard 212-day contract, dependent on qualifications (additional compensation for doctorate degree). The College has a comprehensive faculty benefit program including medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance; paid sick leave; and retirement and two optional deferred compensation programs. All full-time employees will automatically have 3% of taxable income deferred into the State of Washington Deferred Compensation Program (DCP). The college also supports faculty professional development. Walla Walla Community College requires all employees to participate in direct deposit for payment of salary.
