Overview
Serves as a liaison between patients/visitors and hospital staff; preserves the peace and safeguards patients, visitors and employees from fire, theft and vandalism on Medical Center property through the enforcement of hospital regulations and applicable New York Sate law; maintains security of parking garage and lots, parking and directing cars and collecting parking fees as directed.
Responsibilities
- Adheres to all hospital and departmental policies and practices relating to patient safety.
- Patrols all areas of Medical Center, including stairwells and areas not accessible to the public in order to prevent and/or detect fires, thefts, vandalism and other security problems.
- Acts as liaison between patients/visitors and the Medical Center, interpreting the Medical Center's philosophy, policies, procedures and services to patients' families and visitors.
- Provides regular reports on patient/visitor issues to administration; investigates and directs inquiries to appropriate staff members.
- Assists in referring patients and visitors to appropriate services and resources; responds personally when other alternatives are not available
- Detects violations of the law and makes arrests when necessary, and represents the Medical Center as the complainant/witness in any court proceedings that result
- Prepares incident reports and conducts investigations when necessary.
- Assists in restraining emotionally disturbed patients.
Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Successful completion of NYS approved Security Guard Training Program.
Successful completion of de-escalation training course.
BLS/AED training and certification.
Current NYS registration as security guard (per Security Guard Act).
Current valid driver’s license and the ability to drive standard transmission vehicles required.
Experience:
Previous experience in the security field required
Skills:
Must pass basic math skills test.
Must pass security guard test.
Ability to drive standard shift cars
Good oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Able to prepare written reports and conduct investigations when needed.
Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position; knowledge of a second language preferred.
Pay Range
USD $26.44 - USD $28.93 /Hr.
