Transmission Protection & Control Engineer
to join our team at K&A Engineering in
Charlotte, North Carolina.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. You’ll be part of a dynamic, people-focused team where your expertise, ideas, and contributions will be valued and celebrated. Role Expectations: Develop comprehensive scopes of work for electrical Protection & Controls (P&C) systems in support of capital projects. Assess substation yard and control house modifications, including major equipment upgrades, relay specifications, and panel layouts. Identify and specify required equipment, materials, relay types, cabling, and telecom needs. Perform site visits to evaluate existing conditions and validate project requirements. Collaborate closely with stakeholders (Construction, Maintenance, Project Management, Planning, Operations) to ensure scope alignment with operational needs. Apply engineering principles to resolve technical issues, conduct feasibility analyses, and provide solutions for moderately complex to complex problems. Prepare accurate technical documentation, reports, calculations, and sketches. Ensure scopes comply with internal standards, regulatory guidelines, and industry best practices. Independently manage scope development schedules, interfaces, and deliverables with minimal oversight. Support project execution teams during design and construction by clarifying scope intent and resolving field issues. Foster strong working relationships across departments to drive efficient collaboration and decision-making. What we’re looking for: Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (or equivalent) 3+ years of relevant engineering experience within the utility industry Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred Proficient in the design of protection settings and control of all classes of substations Familiar with the creation of SPCC plans and secondary oil containment designs Proficient in engineering theories and principles Proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations, Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills Familiar with principles of project management Pay Range: $95,000—$105,000/year Why Join K&A?
