Protection & Control Engineer
to join our team at K&A Engineering in
Charlotte, North Carolina.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. You’ll be part of a dynamic, people-focused team where your expertise, ideas, and contributions will be valued and celebrated. Role Expectations: Design and develop protection and control relaying systems for substations with a focus on protection settings and SCADA settings. Review and contribute to engineering designs for high-voltage substations (15kV to 345kV). Perform protective relay settings calculations and analysis, ensuring compliance with current and evolving standards (IEEE, NERC, etc.). Create complete engineering design packages including drawings, bills of material, and supporting documentation. Manage multiple projects in various stages to meet critical deadlines. Provide technical support to field personnel during project implementation. Use CAD and other design tools to efficiently produce high-quality engineering work. Utilize specifications, codes, CAD/drafting software, and other engineering resources to execute designs. Conduct detailed engineering studies and prepare comprehensive technical reports and calculations. Make design decisions and provide solutions with moderate impact on systems and operations. Independently manage project schedules, interfaces, and deliverables. What we’re looking for: Bachelors degree in Engineering from a four-year college or university in Engineering Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred 5+ years of relevant engineering experience Proficiency in protection & control (P&C) relaying applications, protective relay settings, and SCADA settings for high-voltage substations (15kV–345kV) Working knowledge of CAD software and engineering tools; ability to produce detailed design packages and technical documentation Ability to manage multiple projects independently, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Pay Range: $90,000—$100,000/year Why Join K&A?
