We partner with hospitals, transplant centers and other partners to coordinate the organ and tissue donation process. We are passionate about inspiring our community to register as organ and tissue donors and provide support to the families of those who give the gift of life. Job Summary: Due to growth, HonorBridge is recruiting for an Organ Donation Coordinator. The Organ Donation Coordinator facilitates organ donation by evaluating referrals and managing the entire organ donor process including medical management of the donor, organ allocation and overseeing organ recovery. The ideal candidate has experience in critical care, the ability to function in high-pressure situations and knowledge of an operating room environment. As associate degree or RN licensure is required. Individuals must be prepared to be onsite at their hospital within one hour from notification when on call. Note that Organ Donation Coordinators are activated to sites depending on daily activity. Geographic distance is taken into consideration for assignments. Organ Donation Coordinators should anticipate travel every shift. What you'll be doing: Facilitates organ donation Oversees donor management process. Initiates donor management orders to achieve hemodynamic stability and optimize organ function, consulting with Medical Director and Organ AOC as needed. Evaluates organ suitability by obtaining consultations from medical specialties, ordering tests and procedures, and interpreting results. Coordinates case dynamics, discusses significant events and issues with the Organ AOC Directs and maximizes organ recovery process. Ensures organ recovery is completed in accordance with hospital policy. Communicates information specific to recovery process to hospital and transplant staff. Performs necessary follow-up specific to the recovery process. Triages organ referrals from the HonorBridge answering service. Facilitates open communication between the HonorBridge answering service and hospital staff. Initiates action and oversees logistics associated with organ referral process. Evaluates potential candidates for organ donation. Assesses and analyzes patient history, hospital course, laboratory values, and other pertinent clinical information used to determine suitability for donation. Discusses organ suitability with Organ AOC and Medical Director Fosters open communication with hospital staff, communicates with care team about plan of care, hemodynamic stability, and actions needed to preserve the option of donation. Completes documentation. Reviews completed electronic donor record for accuracy. Utilizes medical information from remote or onsite EMR access to obtain and review available medical records. Maintains confidentiality of all patient and donor/recipient information Actively assists with the HonorBridge quality assurance process. Serves as a technical resource for organ referrals and donors. Assists with the e-chart completion process. Maintains ongoing relationships with all levels of hospital staff and physicians. Works with Hospital Development Specialists to educate hospital staff about organ donation. Responds to administrative duties to include internal and external communication, projects, and QA. Travel and hours: This is a night shift position that requires (3)16-hour call days a week/weekend. The shift hours are 5pm to 9am. Extensive automobile travel within service area and may travel in light aircraft as required. What we are looking for:
A medical/clinical background in critical care or emergency care Licensed Registered Nurse (RN), Respiratory Therapist (RT), and EMT, or prior clinical experience in an OPO Minimum four years in a clinical environment strongly preferred. Associate degree required. Bachelor's Degree preferred Certification and/or Registration: ABTC certification (CPTC) or ability to obtain within 2 years of eligibility. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to manage stress and high pressure situations. Knowledge of operating room environment
