Outdoor Adventure Center Guide 1
The starting pay range for this position begins at $16.32/hour but is based on the level of qualifications and relevant experience above the minimum requirements. Please note that this is a seasonal position with an expected end date of January 10th, 2026. The Outdoor Adventure Center Guide 1 provides support and leadership in outdoor recreational programs for guests visiting the estate. Responsibilities include instruction and guide services for bike tours, raft and kayak river trips, hiking groups, archery groups, fishing, naturalist programs, mindfulness and well-being programs, and other team-building activities. The Outdoor Adventure Center Guide 1 also provides basic maintenance for all related equipment, facilities, and trails. Guides will assist with administrative duties, sales and bookings, and estate seminars. Guides will also provide general support and assistance to the leadership team, department, and company. The schedule varies, but is generally 8:30am - 5:30pm. Holiday and weekend availability is a requirement for this position. Requirements: High School diploma (or GED) and experience in outdoor program activities or education. Experience leading interpretive activities. Experience in guiding and/or teaching activities. Excellent guest service and communication skills. Public speaking experience. Ability to work well with co-workers and management. Current certification in First Aid and CPR (onsite required, not online) or the ability to obtain it within one month of hire. General knowledge of regional horticulture and wildlife preferred. Must be at least 18 years old and have valid NC driver's license. Essential Job Duties: Assist guests with information, rental equipment, and trail map orientation. Maneuver kayaks and rafts using paddles and oar frames. Load equipment on and off vans and trailers, including, but not limited to, rafts, oars, paddles, bikes, etc. Drive a 15-passenger van and trailer loaded with guests and equipment. Clean and maintain bikes, rafts, kayaks, and other equipment. Perform basic trail and habitat maintenance, including mowing, weed-eating, and digging. Create and present outdoor naturalist, well-being, and history programs to guests. Assist with administering special programs to large groups. Help guests with estate information and other activities offered at Biltmore. Book tours, process payments, and interpret online reports. Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry 50 + lbs on regular basis. Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time. Must be able to deal with outside elements such as wind, rain, snow, and heat. Must have ability to lift bikes, rafts, kayaks, and other equipment on and off the van and trailer. Must be able to swim. Must pass a physical exam and drug screen. Must be able to see, hear, and speak.
