Intake Worker I

This is a full-time, 40 hours/week position with the following schedule:
- Monday - Friday 7:00am-3:00pm
The Salvation Army Waukesha Men's Emergency Shelter Lodge is open 24 hours and 7 days a week. Candidate must be willing to periodically work holidays at double-time pay. Candidate may be periodically asked if they would like to pick up a weekend shift, a 2nd shift, or a 3rd shift as well.
The Intake Worker I provides support to the Intake Worker II by providing supervision and intake of clients, maintaining security, and providing supportive services in a Christian atmosphere.
About the role:
- Conducts intake interviews of incoming residents into shelter
- Assigns a proper room and distributes needed bedding and personal items
- Provides necessary supervision of shelter and residents, assuring that rules and policies are being followed
- Maintains an awareness of client needs
- Answers telephone calls, taking messages when appropriate
- Cleans shelter areas as necessary
- Prepares snacks for shelter residents
- Oversees lunch and dinner preparations in dining room
- Reviews log book and updates entries as needed
- Performs room inspections
- Distributes medications as needed
- Supervises volunteers and community service workers, when assigned.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Certifications: N/A
Experience: Experience working with the homeless population desirable
