Overview

This position is based out of Prairie du Chien Correctional Institution in Prairie du Chien, WI.
Position Summary
This position is responsible for performing work assignments as an Electrician. This skilled trades position carries a high level of responsibility. Responsibilities include inspection, installation, analysis, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and repair of all facility electrical devices, appliances, equipment and system components (i.e. wiring, lighting, switches, receptacles, motors, pumps, switchgear, transfer switches, transformers, power distribution systems and components) throughout the institution complex and property. The position will report and make recommendations on lighting and power controls, installations, modifications, etc., to further enhance energy conservation efforts. It will assist other maintenance department personnel in routine tasks when necessary. The position may occasionally provide direction, training, instruction, supervision, and coordinate the work of Facilities Maintenance personnel, inmate workers, or Limited Term Employees regarding maintenance tasks, repair work assignments, and/or projects related to electrical systems and equipment. Occasional support to area DOC facilities may be needed.
Salary and Benefits
This position is in pay schedule and range 04-00 with a starting pay of $46.35/hour, $47.09/hour, or $47.85/hour, depending on annual leave time selected. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Job Details
This position is not eligible for remote work. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application. The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Criminal background checks and fingerprinting are required prior to employment.
Qualifications
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess a valid Journeyman Electrician or Master Electrician license from the State of Wisconsin, Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS). This license must remain active during employment.
- Employees hired with a Journeyman Electrician license must obtain their Masters Electrician license by the end of the twelve-month probationary period.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license or eligibility to obtain one prior to appointment.
- Must have the ability to work up to 16 hours per day and more than 40 hours per week on any shift based on daily operational needs. This may include weekends and holidays.
