Overview
This electrician role is responsible for supervising, overseeing, coordinating, and hands-on work for all electrical work on projects. It requires coordination with subcontractors as needed according to project plans, timeframes, and changes. The position includes training and mentoring student employees and may require being on call 24 hours a day for a week, several times a year.
What you’ll do in this position
- Supervision, Safety, and Project Management
- Assist with pre-construction meetings including project phasing, schedules, reviewing construction documents, equipment selection, installation verification, equipment startup, and commissioning
- Construction and remodeling projects
- Assign and respond to Service Requests for maintenance and repairs
- Respond to unscheduled daily shop requests varying in nature and urgency
- Be responsible for budget, quality, schedule, and safety on each project
- Procure materials and coordinate equipment delivery with vendors and suppliers
- Update construction and maintenance progress
- Ensure personal safety and the safety of others around the work areas
What qualifies you for this role
Required
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
- 4 years Journeyman electrical experience or equivalent
- Ability to maintain good working relationships with all involved personnel, including treating others with respect and kindness
- Ability to read and understand electrical plans with knowledge of related codes and regulations
- Must have a valid Utah Driver’s License
Physical and safety
Physical Exam and Lift Test Required
- Physical Effort – Moderate: frequent handling of medium weight objects (approx. 20–50 lbs.), use of medium weight hand tools; may involve climbing and working from ladders or in awkward positions; pulling cable through duct banks and utility tunnels; occasional lifting up to 100+ lbs; exposure to variable temperatures, noise, dust, and other conditions; use of various hand and power tools
- Physical requirements include bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders, overhead reaching; proper PPE such as closed-toe shoes, gloves, and protective eyewear are required
- Operate hand tools, power tools, testing meters, and electrical equipment; eye and hearing protection, gloves, and footwear required
Preferred
- 5–7 years Journeyman electrical experience or equivalent
- Master Electrical License or equivalent experience
