Overview
Superior Ambulance Service is the largest independent, locally owned and operated Emergency Medical Service provider in Northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. We provide wheelchair transportation, Basic Life Support, Advanced Life Support, and Critical Care Ground Transportation, as well as Critical Care Rotary Air Transportation. Under the direction of the Lead Mechanic, the Mechanic is responsible for the general maintenance and repair of all Superior Ambulance vehicles. The mechanic will be working in a fast-paced, high volume private fleet. This mixed fleet includes various makes and models of vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Perform inspections, diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment.
- Conduct routine maintenance to improve vehicle functionality and longevity.
- Complete necessary documentation related to repairs, parts usage, and repair times.
- Perform other related maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Communicate needed repairs or tasks to the manager.
- Maintain a safe work station.
Qualifications
- Must be willing to work on gas and diesel engines as needed.
- Understand basic electrical components including switches, relays, and circuits.
- Provide own tools.
- Proficient in vehicle diagnosis and repair.
- Emergency lighting and siren experience is welcome.
- Certificates of accomplishments are valuable.
- Motivated, self-starter and able to work independently.
- Work cooperatively with other employees.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions in English.
- Must be able to routinely lift and carry items up to 75 lbs and reach overhead.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly in verbal contact with others. Work is indoors and outdoors and exposed to environmental elements, automotive fluids and cleaning chemicals.

Salary Range: USD $22.00 - USD $35.00 /Hr. Rates offered based on years of experience.
