Staring at $17.50/HR plus $1.25/HR Shift Differential ($18.75/HR Total)
Objective(s): The Extrusion Packer primarily inspects products to ensure that quality production standards are met and packs the product according to customer specifications.
Essential Functions: Checking the scheduling board for line assignment, what part number is running, and the quantity needed. Confirm with production tech what part is being run. Reviewing process to confirm how to pack the parts properly. Confirming with production tech where the glue, butyl, and/or tape are to be located and sign off on the shadowgraph. Confirming that proper labels and packing materials are being used. Confirm that the glue light, gap pin, and length gauge are available. Communicating with the packer that you are relieving, to see what problems they may have had or what defects they are finding. Inspection and packing of parts, including packing parts according to the packing procedure in the process and notifying the production tech of any discrepancies or problems. Confirm that the part number and quantity being packed match the quantity on the label. Check all parts for defects according to the part defect training sheet. Report defects to production tech. Check parts for glue, tape placement, butyl, gap, and length. Segregate defects for proper tracking by the production tech. Complete labels and logbook to allow for proper tracking of parts. The packer is responsible for setting up the downstream equipment from the water bath to the pack-out table and assisting the production tech as needed. Assist production tech in tearing down and setting up line to include but not limited to moving equipment. Empty and fill extruder hoppers. Set up the pack out table or rack. Clean the table and return all unused equipment. Clean up the rack if used and turn WIP boxes upside down. Fill out the logbook to prepare for the next job. Prepare packing material. Make boxes and prepare for the packing of finished parts if called for in the process. Gather dividers for WIP racks. Make sure all quality check equipment is online according to the process. The cutter setup includes draining water from the reservoir and refilling, checking the operation to make sure the cutter is functional. Check the puller belts and clean if necessary. Make sure the puller belt is off. Make sure the air rack is operational and clean as necessary. Set up the glue according to the process and clean after the production run. Make sure glue is available online. Turn on the Butyl extruder and cooling line. Make sure butyl is available online. Clean water bath as needed. Clean up the line and empty the trash. Always follow instructions from the Production Technician to run the line you are assigned to. Practice safety around extruders, operating temperature is over 300 degrees. Be aware of the equipment around you and never bypass a safety switch or guard. Follow all safety rules and help in keeping a safe work environment. Producing quality products and services to both internal and external customers. Producing product efficiently and timely. Ability to read, comprehend, and perform from written process procedures. To include reading and following the work and pack instructions. Maintaining accurate production and QC paperwork. Building packaging and packing and unpacking products in producing a quality part. Operate and interpret quality gages and tools. Visually inspect products to meet the customer’s requirements. Performing overtime on short notice Work well with other employees and act responsibly and professionally Effectively achieve results that meet business and individual objectives. Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The work environment is not temperature controlled, and the employee may be exposed to high heat work conditions.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Travel: Semi frequent short distance, and infrequent long distant travel may be required.
Education and Experience: High School Diploma/General Education Diploma (GED), or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a manufacturing production environment; and/or demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above-mentioned essential functions.

Knowledge, Skills & Ability Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills, including the ability to listen attentively and to communicate information clearly and effectively. Ability to always exercise good judgment and professionalism. Ability to coordinate and assist with day-to-day production functions. Experience and demonstrated skills/knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) ERP Systems, and accurate data entry.
