Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Bookkeeper to join our team. This position plays a critical role in maintaining accurate financial records for our construction projects by managing full-cycle accounting processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction accounting, excellent organizational skills, and proficiency in QuickBooks and other accounting software.
Key Responsibilities:
- Full-Cycle Accounting: Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger entries, journal entries, month-end close, and financial statement preparation.
- Job Costing: Accurately track and allocate costs to specific jobs and projects. Monitor budgets vs. actuals and provide variance analysis.
- Accounts Payable & Receivable: Process vendor invoices and payments, manage billing and collections, maintain up-to-date vendor and customer records.
- Payroll Processing: Handle weekly/bi-weekly payroll, including certified payroll when applicable. Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Bank Reconciliations: Reconcile multiple bank accounts, credit cards, and loan accounts on a monthly basis.
- Construction Financial Reporting: Generate construction-specific financial reports such as WIP (Work in Progress), job profitability reports, and project budget summaries.
- Compliance & Documentation: Ensure proper documentation and filing for audits, licensing, insurance, and tax compliance.
- Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and senior leadership to provide financial insights and support project decision-making.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3–5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry
- Proficiency in QuickBooks (Desktop and/or Online) is required
- Strong understanding of job costing, progress billing, and construction accounting principles
- Experience with payroll systems and knowledge of payroll tax regulations
- Solid knowledge of accounts payable/receivable and general accounting
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to meet tight deadlines
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other standard office software
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with construction management software (e.g., Buildertrend, Procore, Sage 100 Contractor, etc.)
- Familiarity with certified payroll and prevailing wage requirements
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred but not required)
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
