Job Title: Construction Bookkeeper

Location: Albuquerque, NM
Job Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Owner

Position Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Bookkeeper to join our team. This position plays a critical role in maintaining accurate financial records for our construction projects by managing full-cycle accounting processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction accounting, excellent organizational skills, and proficiency in QuickBooks and other accounting software.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Full-Cycle Accounting: Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger entries, journal entries, month-end close, and financial statement preparation.
  • Job Costing: Accurately track and allocate costs to specific jobs and projects. Monitor budgets vs. actuals and provide variance analysis.
  • Accounts Payable & Receivable: Process vendor invoices and payments, manage billing and collections, maintain up-to-date vendor and customer records.
  • Payroll Processing: Handle weekly/bi-weekly payroll, including certified payroll when applicable. Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Bank Reconciliations: Reconcile multiple bank accounts, credit cards, and loan accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Construction Financial Reporting: Generate construction-specific financial reports such as WIP (Work in Progress), job profitability reports, and project budget summaries.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Ensure proper documentation and filing for audits, licensing, insurance, and tax compliance.
  • Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and senior leadership to provide financial insights and support project decision-making.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks (Desktop and/or Online) is required
  • Strong understanding of job costing, progress billing, and construction accounting principles
  • Experience with payroll systems and knowledge of payroll tax regulations
  • Solid knowledge of accounts payable/receivable and general accounting
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other standard office software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with construction management software (e.g., Buildertrend, Procore, Sage 100 Contractor, etc.)
  • Familiarity with certified payroll and prevailing wage requirements
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred but not required)
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
