The Vice President of Human Resources and Administration leads the human resources and related administrative functions of the organization, including development and implementation of best practices to create a highly productive and positive workplace. This includes performance management, grievance and disciplinary procedures, policy development and implementation, payroll and benefits administration, and recruiting processes. As a member of the executive team, the role collaborates with AAJC staff to enhance employment and team communication, provide solutions to employment issues, build relationships with internal and external partners, and optimize AAJC’s endeavors. This is a unionized organization; this position is not in the collective bargaining unit. Position Summary:
The VP leads HR and related administrative functions, including policy development, payroll and benefits administration, performance management, grievance procedures, and recruiting. The role collaborates with AAJC staff to enhance employment and team communication, and to identify and build relationships with internal and external partners. Duties and Responsibilities Organizational Leadership and Strategic Planning: Act as a thought partner to the President and Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer on HR and administration issues. Work with the executive team, staff, and board to provide leadership in budgeting, program goals, and strategies; advance ideas that align with AAJC’s mission and strategic plan. Serve as a senior mentor and bridge-builder for AAJC, strengthening collaboration between departments and partners. Human Resources and Benefits Administration Annually review and recommend improvements to policies, procedures, and HR infrastructure. Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws and any relevant collective bargaining agreements. Communicate changes in personnel policies and ensure proper compliance. Assist supervisors with performance management, career development, and employment communications. Consult with legal counsel on HR matters as directed. Oversee salary and benefits administration, payroll processing, benefits enrollment, leave, and related duties. Other duties as assigned. Fundraising Provide administrative support for meetings, events, and outreach. Suggest potential donors to the development team. General AAJC Roles Live and exhibit AAJC values, promoting trust, teamwork, and transparency. Participate in policy development and maintain confidentiality to uphold AAJC principles. Participate in decision-making and be accountable for outcomes. Understand and apply AAJC values in work responsibilities. Attend and contribute to AAJC and Board meetings; be available to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends. Educational and Professional Experience Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree preferred. SHRM-PC/SHRM-SC or PPHR/SPHR certification preferred. At least ten (10) years of progressive management experience in nonprofit administration and HR management required. Broad knowledge of employment law, compensation and benefits, organizational planning and development, employee relations, and related software systems. Excellent writing, editing, organization, and attention to detail. Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Experience with Asian American, civil and/or human rights issues preferred. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Strategic thinking, problem-solving, confidentiality, and judgment. Ability to measure program outcomes using valid metrics. Experience working with diverse groups; collaborative leadership; coaching and mentoring.
