Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The mission of the Gillings School of Global Public Health’s finance office is to oversee budget planning, management and reporting at the School level and to lead financial policy development and implementation on behalf of the School. We serve as an adviser to School personnel on compliance matters and as a liaison between the School and auditors (internal and external). We also serve as the liaison between the School and various offices around campus (Provost’s Office, Budget Office, Office of University Counsel, Internal Audit, as well as other UNC -Chapel Hill offices) on finance and compliance-related issues. The finance office directly manages financials for the central School units (CAUs) and the Public Health Foundation.

Position Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to:

  • Manage funding for all central school payroll. Performs detailed analysis on payroll funding sources for yearend to ensure school is maximizing STATE funds and fringe pool in conjunction with other funding sources. Develops a spending plan and works with supervisor to move payroll spending based on analysis performed.
  • Serve as primary approver for central school finance transactions and as budget approver for all school HA transactions.
  • Monitor fund balances, manage deficits, and ensure appropriate use of resources.
  • Monitor financial activity to ensure adherence to UNG , state, federal, and other sponsor policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the ConnectCarolina (Peoplesoft} financial modules. Serve as subject matter expert and advisor for lnfoPorte and other departmental tools.
  • Generate various financial reports for school leadership
  • Oversees, manages and reconciles complex revenue sharing related to the MPH @ UNC online/residential offmodel degree programs.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or Associate’s degree in accounting; or Associate’s degree in business or related discipline with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel knowledge required.
Demonstrated analytical skills including ability to analyze large volumes of data. Experience reconciling financial transactions required.
Fund accounting experience required.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Higher education experience preferred. Peoplesoft experience a plus.
Website skills a plus.
