Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The Gillings School of Global Public Health’s finance office oversees budget planning, management and reporting at the School level and leads financial policy development and implementation on behalf of the School. We advise on compliance matters and act as a liaison between the School and auditors, as well as with various campus offices on finance and compliance issues. The finance office manages financials for the central School units (CAUs) and the Public Health Foundation.

Position Summary

  • Manage funding for all central school payroll. Perform detailed analysis on payroll funding sources for year-end to maximize STATE funds and fringe pool in conjunction with other funding sources. Develop a spending plan and adjust payroll spending based on analysis.
  • Serve as primary approver for central school finance transactions and as budget approver for all school HA transactions.
  • Monitor fund balances, manage deficits, and ensure appropriate use of resources.
  • Monitor financial activity to ensure adherence to UNG, state, federal, and other sponsor policies and procedures.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for ConnectCarolina (PeopleSoft) financial modules. Advise on InfoPorte and other departmental tools.
  • Generate various financial reports for school leadership.
  • Oversee, manage and reconcile complex revenue sharing related to the MPH @ UNC online/residential off-model degree programs.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or Associate’s degree in accounting; or Associate’s degree in business or related discipline with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel knowledge.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills including the ability to analyze large volumes of data; experience reconciling financial transactions.
  • Fund accounting experience required.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Higher education experience preferred. PeopleSoft experience a plus.
  • Website skills a plus.
