Description of Work
Building Systems Maintenance has three levels of electricians, and the level is determined by a candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, and applicable licensure. Electrician II, III and IV: install, alter, add, maintain, troubleshoot, and/or repair electrical systems, lighting controls, access control systems, building security systems, fire alarm systems, and building automation controls systems. Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits, interpret schematics and blueprints, ensure compliance with regulations. Electrician III: confirms scope, schedule, and budget requirements and coordinates changes; communicates with outside vendors and manufacturers. Electrician IV: provides as-built documentation, coordinates work and schedules with stakeholders, trains and mentors others, and assists with project development and safety coordination. All levels may be assigned to rotating on-call schedules and occasional after-hours work.

Minimum Required Qualifications
- Electrician II, III and IV: High school or equivalent; able to lift 50 lbs; able to work from ladder/aerial equipment; available by cell phone for emergencies; regular on-call rotations; valid driver’s license and university driver eligibility.
- Electrician II: Minimum 4 years experience with electrical/low voltage systems; ability to read instructions, good analytical and communication skills; strong time management and organizational skills; understanding of building principles, codes, electrical theory; ability to read blueprints and specifications; operate testing devices; must hold a State of Nebraska Journeyman Electrical License.
- Electrician III: In addition to above, 4 years experience with commercial electrical/low voltage systems; strong documentation and multi-project management skills; good understanding of building principles and codes.
- Electrician IV: In addition to above, 1+ year experience mentoring others; familiarity with card access, fire alarm systems, lighting control, HVAC controls; project development and safety coordination.
Preferred Qualifications
- Electrician II, III and IV: Associate’s degree or related experience.
- Electrician II: Proficient in Microsoft Office; completion of required UNL/BSM training; advanced computer skills; experience with EMCS/CMMS/access control and fire alarm systems; Nebraska Contractor Electrical License.
- Electrician III: 6+ years in commercial electrical/low voltage; mentoring/overseeing others for installation and maintenance.
- Electrician IV: 2+ years mentoring/overseeing others; installation, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems.
