Major Duties

  • Provide network administration/management for the DLA LAN environment.
  • Configure and optimize network by analyzing network workload and monitoring network capacity and performance.
  • Act as Network Administrator of the DLA LAN environment and be responsible to make and keep records of the software/firmware assignments/upgrades necessary to establish or change service to J64 LAN Management equipment.
  • Develop testing criteria and procedures to ensure accuracy and thoroughness of a completed project, including testing interfaces that impact major communications systems/applications.
  • Serve as a technical expert within the DLA J64 LAN Management branch concerning network needs, plans, situations and problems.

Qualification Summary

To qualify for an IT Specialist (NETWORK), your qualifications must include: A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: Coordinates implementation with the network operations personnel. Prepares and presents briefings, lectures, reports, concept papers, feasibility studies and economic analysis to management. Participates in the development and implementation of system policies, procedures, and guidance in the form of regulations, Headquarters Staff Instructions (HIS), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), etc. Create/update network maps; configure and manage LAN Management equipment. Scrutinizes requests for additional network services for compliance with directives and submits recommendations for approval/disapproval to team lead or supervisor based on all factors involved. B. Education: Applicants may not qualify for this position based on education in lieu of specialized experience. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
